IFREMER, or French Institute for Exploitation of the Sea, was established in 1984 as France's national institute of marine research. The Institute's web site offers visitors information on its mission, programs, products, fleet, and primary areas of research: the coastal seas, aquaculture, fishery resources, ocean floors, oceanography, and equipment.
