The Mini Nutritional Assessment is an assessment tool that can identify geriatric patients at risk of malnutrition.
The percentage of elderly persons is increasing in most countries around the world. Ageing is a complex phenomenon, which includes molecular, cellular, physiological and psychological changes. Health problems partly result from life style and health habits. The sense of taste and smell decrease with age, resulting in a decreased appetite while dental problems decrease the ability to chew certain foods. The diminution of visual and auditory senses or osteoarthritis that affects mobility may decrease the elderly person’s ability to purchase and prepare food (1).
