    • 广州地球化学研究所和上海高压先进科研中心和美国卡内基研究院地球物理实验室科研人员合作研究发现了天然金刚石形成的新机制,为了解地幔中碳的赋存形式提供了重要依据。相关研究成果发表在《 美国国家科学院院刊》( PNAS )上。 天然金刚石在高温高压条件下形成,主要途径包括星球撞击和巨大星球内部地质作用。目前研究表明,地球上大部分金刚石来源于地表以下 150-240km 深度, C-O-H 流体或熔体等流动性含碳相与地幔岩石中碳酸盐或硅酸盐反应,碳被还原为金刚石;在上述的深度之下,金刚石生成是碳酸盐熔体与金属铁等还原剂发生化学反应的结果。也就是说,地球内部的金刚石形成均涉及了流体相或熔体和另一种还原剂的存在,尚未发现碳酸盐在没有外部还原剂条件下发生亚固态分解形成金刚石的现象。

    • 水在地球形成和演化过程中扮演着重要角色。近 20 年的 研究表明,地幔转换带( Mantle Transition Zone-MTZ ;深度范围为 410 到 660 公里的地幔区域)可能储存两到三个海洋的水,但这些水可能是不均匀地分布在 MTZ 中。地球科学界近些年来对俯冲带中水的循环以及 MTZ 水的来源存在较大争议,但近 10 年的研究表明俯冲带中含水矿物可能可以携带一定量的水到 MTZ 。如果俯冲带中含水矿物能够携带一定量的水到 MTZ 深度,一个问题是这些矿物分解后所释放的水是否能够逃离俯冲板片然后造成 MTZ 的水化?另外,俯冲板片中除了含水矿物所携带的水,还有没有其他形式的水可以被搬运到 MTZ 深度?如果有,这些水俯冲到 MTZ 深度后的最终命运又将如何?   为了能够解决上述一些问题,中国科学院广州地球化学研究所博士刘星成、研究员李元、 Eiichi Takahashi 与日本合作者 Kyoko N. Matsukage 博士开展了地幔转换带条件下的高温高压模拟实验,通过测量俯冲洋壳中主要矿物和流体间的二面角来揭示俯冲带中水的循环和 MTZ 的水化机制。流体和矿物颗粒共存时的二面角是控制流体在矿物边界流动的一种重要机制。当二面角小于 60 度时,流体可以在矿物颗粒边界自由流动,但当二面角大于 60 度时,流体将无法在矿物颗粒边界自由流动。实验结果表明在 MTZ ( 17–19 GPa and 1000–1200 °C )条件下,流体 - 超硅石榴石 - 超硅石榴石之间二面角为 44 到 55 度,随着温度压力增加而降低。这些实验结果表明,在 MTZ 条件下,流体可以自由地在深俯冲的板片中自由流动。但结合前人实验资料(图 1 和图 2 ),这些作者却发现在 MTZ 以上的深度,流体在冷的俯冲板片中无法自由流动,仅在热的俯冲板片中可以自由流动。因此,在冷的俯冲板片条件下,含水矿物分解所释放的流体可能会滞留在俯冲板片中,并且被一直拖拽到 MTZ 的深度。但在热的俯冲板片中含水矿物分解所释放的流体却很容易逃离板片,因此无法被拖拽到 MTZ 深度。因此,相比于热的俯冲板片,冷的俯冲板片更容易把水携带到 MTZ 深度。但是无论热的俯冲板片还是冷的俯冲板片,随着板片俯冲到 MTZ 深度,任何自由流体(不管是先前滞留的流体还是含水矿物分解形成的新的流体)都可以逃离俯冲板片从而交代 MTZ ,造成 MTZ 的水化。因此,这些结果表明: 1 )冷热板片的俯冲不仅可以造成 MTZ 的水化还可以造成 MTZ 含水量的不均一性; 2 )冷的俯冲板片可能携带自由流体进入 MTZ 。   在中国科学院先导专项 B ( XDB18000000 )以及国家自然科学基金的资助下,以上研究成果在线发表在国际地学期刊 Journal of Geophysical Research-Solid Earth 上,刘星成和李元是该文的共同通讯作者。   论文信息:Xingcheng Liu, Kyoko Matsukage, Yuan Li, Eiichi Takahashi, Toshihiro Suzuki, and Xiaolin Xiong (2018) Aqueous fluid connectivity in subducting oceanic crust at the mantle transition zone conditions.
