    Abstract

Background: A novel coronavirus (COVID-19) originated in Wuhan has caused an outbreak and infected clusters from December 2019, which has become a major public health issue in China and great concern from the international community. Viral myocarditis and myocardial injury were suspected and may even be considered as one of the leading causes for the death of COVID-19 patients. Therefore, we focused on the condition of the heart, and sought to provide firsthand evidence for whether myocarditis and myocardial injury were caused by COVID-19.

At the time of writing, two clinical scenarios of severe paediatric COVID-19 cases have been reported from the UK and Italy: severe shock syndrome with hyperinflammation4 and Kawasaki-like-disease.5

In-hospital mortality are high in severe cases and cardiac injury characterized by elevated cardiac troponin are common among them. The mechanism of cardiac injury and the relationship between cardiac injury and in-hospital mortality remained unclear. Studies focused on cardiac injury in COVID-19 patients are scarce. [Objectives] To investigate the association between cardiac injury and in-hospital mortality of patients with confirmed or suspected COVID-19. [Methods] Demographic, clinical, treatment, and laboratory data of consecutive confirmed or suspected COVID-19 patients admitted in Wuhan No.1 Hospital from 25th December, 2019 to 15th February, 2020 were extracted from electronic medical records and were retrospectively reviewed and analyzed. *注,本文为预印本论文手稿,是未经同行评审的初步报告,其观点仅供科研同行交流,并不是结论性内容,请使用者谨慎使用.
