It is a pleasure to be able to join you for at least a part of your meeting. I would like to express my gratitude to Clemson University for hosting this conference and to the organizers for developing an agenda that covers a range of critical areas in food safety. I missed the first part of your meeting since I am just coming from a meeting on Campylobacter which is being held in Atlanta. It is always enjoyable to see many of my colleagues that I have known for quite some time as well as meet those of you who are embarking on a career in the area of food safety.
The Green Revolution has helped ensure sufficient food to feed everyone. In coming decades, global food security will
be a major challenge because of population growth, changing consumption patterns and environmental degradation.
