  • Data Analysis and Modeling in Earth Sciences (DAMES) - Biannual international conference series, 26-28 September 2016 in Hamburg

During the last few decades, the increasing public and scientific interest in geoscientific problems has triggered enormous efforts to obtain, analyze and interpret data that contain substantial information about the dynamics of the complex system ''Earth''. For this purpose, novel techniques not only for recording data, but also for their statistical evaluation and data-based modeling had to be developed.

Aims and Scope of the Conference

The objective of the international conference series “Data Analysis and Modeling in Earth Sciences” (DAMES) is to bring together researchers dealing with data analysis and modeling in all fields of Earth Sciences, promoting the exchange of knowledge on both methodological developments and Earth Science applications across disciplines. Specific topics come from all fields of Earth Sciences, including atmospheric sciences, hydrology, oceanography, present-day and paleo-climatology, climate change and its impacts. Contributions on applied topics such as environmental risk analysis and sustainability are welcome as well.

    • 会议信息: In Earth and planetary materials, deformation processes can be very fast, for example during an earthquake or a meteoritic impact, or very slow, for example when considering convection in the mantle or plate tectonics. Transient behaviors are also observed and a comprehensive description of all the rheological couplings between scales represent a great challenge in Earth sciences. The 2016 Rock Deformation Gordon Conference will present cutting-edge research on the various time and spatial scales involved in the deformation of rocks in the Earth and in the solar system. The Conference will feature a wide range of topics from the atomic to the planet scales, such as rock rheology in the ductile and brittle regimes, earthquake mechanics, interface dynamics, mantle dynamics, and flow in porous media. Geoengineering applications in the domains of geohazards and the sustainable exploitation of underground georesources will also be considered. Invited speakers represent a variety of scientific disciplines, including rock physics, geology, geophysics, mechanics, physics, and civil engineering. The conference will bring together a collection of junior and senior investigators who are at the forefront of their field, and will provide opportunities for junior scientists and graduate students to present their work in poster format and exchange ideas with leaders in the field. Some poster presenters from the Gordon Research Seminar held before will be selected for short talks. The collegial and open atmosphere of this Conference, with programmed discussion sessions as well as opportunities for informal gatherings in the afternoons, evenings and during the meals, provides an avenue for scientists from different disciplines to brainstorm and promotes cross-disciplinary collaborations in the various research areas represented.

    • 会议信息: This conference will bring together academics, practitioners and those with an interest in working with small unmanned aerial systems (sUAS) for environmental monitoring and research. Photo from UAVAbstracts are invited for oral and poster presentations, on a range of environmental topics, including but not limited to: •Terrestrial applications ? such as geomorphology, natural hazards, glaciology, archaeology, ecology, conservation, terrain assessment, agriculture, forestry, geology & geophysics. •Hydrological applications ? such river science, hydrology, coastal & marine. •Atmospheric applications ? such as aerobiology. •Practicalities of data collection using sUAS (including licensing and flight regulations) •Processing and analysis of sUAS data (including photogrammetry and structure from motion) This two-day workshop is organised by the University of Worcester (UK) and will be held in the Riverside Building, adjacent to the University of Worcester Arena on Hylton Road. The conference will include keynote addresses (speakers to be announced shortly), oral presentations, interactive poster sessions and an exhibition of sUAS service providers.
