ASIC is the peak body representing the commercial fishing, aquaculture and post-harvest seafood industries in Australia. The industry’s gross value of production is $2.3 billion (ABARE 2003).
ASIC's mission statement is:
“Through industry leadership and representation, provide a single united voice for all sectors of the Australian seafood industry on national issues of importance to the industry”.
It is for this reason that ASIC is located in Canberra – to be close to the seat of Federal Government and the decision makers. However, ASIC remains responsive to the interests of State, Territory and Commonwealth waters fishing operators and aquaculturists.
The seafood industry is a dynamic industry, employing more than 100,000 Australians, supporting many local communities and making a significant contribution to the national economy.
