The Center is part of an interagency agreement between the Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) of the United States Department of Health and Human Services. It is managed through a cooperative agreement with the University of Maryland.
Foodborne diseases remain responsible for high levels of morbidity and mortality in the general population, but particularly for at-risk groups, such as infants and young, children, the elderly and the immunocompromised.
Asian Food Information Centre (AFIC) is a Singapore-registered not-for-profit organization whose mission is to provide sound science-based information on nutrition, health and food safety across the Asia Pacific region. AFIC is funded by the food, beverage and agriculture industries.
