  • The National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research (NIWA) was established in 1992 as one of nine New Zealand Crown Research Institutes and as such is New Zealand's leading provider of atmospheric and aquatic science. The NIWA Science web site offers information on the Institute's research programs, National Centres, workshops and seminars, publications, and educational materials. The site also offers access to news items, media releases, climate summaries, and several free online services, including a tide forecaster, residential carbon dioxide calculator, cloud imagery, and ultra-violet index and ozone maps and graphs.
