    • The Ministry of Agriculture & Cooperatives was established on April 1, 1910, during the reign of King Rama V. However, the promotion and development of agriculture in Thailand can be traced back to the Sukhothai Period. The development became more explicit with the establishment of Department of Na in Ayutthaya. In Rattanakosin Period, the development was always carried on, the organization's name has been changed from Ministry of Kasetpanichakarn, Kasettrathikarn, Kasetpanichayakarn, Setthakarn, Kasettrathikarn, Kaset to the Ministry of Agriculture & Cooperatives (Kaset and Sahakorn) today. In Sukhothai Period, the story of agriculture was inscribed on stones (starting from 1257 AD). It stated that King Ramkhamhaeng had administrated many national policies to promote agriculture. The most important one was to give his people freedom in choosing their occupation. He also made an announcement that the land, which was used in making any profit, would inherit to their descendants. During his reign, resources were abundance. The water was clean and sufficient to supply to both consumption and farming for the year round. It was believed that King Ramakhamhaeng had managed irrigation as he dammed up a mountain stream to distribute water to the city of Sukhothai. He also promoted forestation as he forested palms to be a sanctuary place for monks to give a sermon on holy day and throne hall for him to look after his kingdom in the other days.
