  • The Centre for Groundwater Studies is an international cooperative research and education venture with strong focus on processes of groundwater recharge, discharge, contamination, remediation and management. The research themes are: Sustainability of groundwater supply,Resource recovery, Groundwater and the Environment. During the past two years the Centre has made great progress in forging links with international institutions particularly in Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, China and South Africa.     • The Australian Centre for Tropical Freshwater Research (ACTFR) is a research and consultancy centre established within James Cook University of North Queensland in 1987 to promote water research, technology and information transfer to industry. Its mission is to achieve excellence in research, consulting and education in water science, environmental science and water technology for the benefit of industry and the community in the Australasian tropics; to undertake independent, expert and ethical research and consulting projects over a broad range of environmental issues; to understand, accept and promote the concepts of ecological sustainability - the successful integration of conservation and development - in all research and consulting projects. The ACTFR now mainly researches the technologies in the following fields: Aquatic Fauna, Mangrove Ecosystems, Water Quality and Water Resources, Hydrology Wetlands and Stream Ecology, Artificial Wetlands, Terrestrial and Aquatic Flora, Terrestrial Fauna.
