Oklahoma City Air Logistics Center (OC-ALC) is one of the five U.S. Air Force Logistics Centers that perform depot level maintenance of aircraft. As part of the maintenance process, a number of wastewater streams containing oil, grease, and other contaminants are produced. These aqueous streams are collected and treated in an Industrial Wastewater Treatment Plant (IWTP), whereby a large amount of oily sludge is produced and then disposed as hazardous waste. The treated water is discharged at a fee. Therefore, OC-ALC has been examining the use of technologies to reduce the discharge of oily wastewater to IWTP as well as to change IWTP operations to reduce the amount of oily sludge disposed.
