The Center was inaugurated in December 1998 on the initiative of Chalmers University of Technology and Göteborg University with the financial backing of the Technology Link Foundation in Göteborg, Chalmers?host organisation. Members of the board include representatives for both universities in Sweden and the food industry. The Center is run according to a business plan adopted by the board. There are a number of players who share their aspirations for functional foods and the future potential of this area. What the Center can do is to provide the target groups with any basic data and conditions for the work that needs to be done. It is not entirely clear what lies ahead, but the Center is a catalyst that inspires and promotes the success of this venture.
