KATHMANDU: The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) seeks to correct some points published in the news today.
WFP has purchased more than 11,000 metric tons of rice for the Nepal earthquake response. Of this, more than 5,000 metric tons has been purchased locally from Nepali suppliers and these purchases are continuing. The remainder that couldn’t be sourced locally was purchased from the State Trading Corporation of India after a tender process.
The cost of the rice bought from the State Trading Corporation of India is 34.87 Rs per kilogram, not 0.34 Rs as has been incorrectly reported.
WFP works closely with the Ministry of Home Affairs in Nepal. A senior official of the Ministry has been stationed within the WFP-managed interagency Humanitarian Staging Area at the airport since the earthquake response started for the purpose of even closer cooperation and transparency.……
