  • Self-Service Diagnosis of COVID-19—Ready for Prime Time?

Shantanu Nundy, MD, MBA1,2; Kavita K Patel, MD, MSHS3

As the world grapples with the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), experts have called for increased access to health care resources, including diagnostic testing, particularly in light of the recent expansion of the Food and Drug Administration’s Emergency Use Authority to make such testing more widely available in the United States.1 Despite rapid expansion, there are significant barriers to testing in ambulatory clinics, emergency departments, and hospitals, which are likely to see a substantial increase in demand. Such access points also pose risks due to overcrowding and nosocomial transmission.

    • Editorial Concern—Possible Reporting of the Same Patients With COVID-19 in Different Reports Howard Bauchner, MD1; Robert M. Golub, MD1; Jody Zylke, MD1 JAMA. Published online March 16, 2020. doi:10.1001/jama.2020.3980 Since January 1, 2020, JAMA and the JAMA Network journals have received hundreds of manuscripts and direct queries related to coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), including research reports, case series and case reports, and opinion pieces. The editors have become aware that some of the patients described in some of these manuscripts, sometimes with overlapping authorship, have been reported in more than 1 submission. This inclusion of the same patients in more than 1 report has not been clearly indicated in the submitted manuscripts. This is of concern and may represent a lapse in ethical standards of scientific reporting.

    • Impact of self-imposed prevention measures and short-term government intervention on mitigating and delaying a COVID-19 epidemic Alexandra Teslya, Thi Mui Pham, Noortje E. Godijk, Mirjam E. Kretzschmar, Martin C.J. Bootsma, Ganna Rozhnova doi: https://doi.org/10.1101/2020.03.12.20034827 Abstract Background: With new cases of COVID-19 surging around the world, some countries may have to prepare for moving beyond the containment phase. Prediction of the effectiveness of non-case-based interventions for mitigating, delaying or preventing the epidemic is urgent, especially for countries affected by the increased seasonal influenza activity. Methods: We developed a transmission model to evaluate the impact of self-imposed prevention measures (handwashing, mask-wearing, and social distancing) due to COVID-19 awareness and of short-term government-imposed social distancing on the peak number of diagnoses, attack rate and time until the peak number of diagnoses. *注,本文为预印本论文手稿,是未经同行评审的初步报告,其观点仅供科研同行交流,并不是结论性内容,请使用者谨慎使用.
