The National Board of Nutrition Support Certification, Inc (NBNSC) is an independent credentialing board. The NBNSC was established in 1984 by the American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (A.S.P.E.N.) to administer certification programs in specialized nutrition support. A.S.P.E.N. is an individual professional membership society which has established standards of patient care and professional responsibility in the area of specialized nutrition support. The development of standards of practice, clinical guidelines and the establishment of the NBNSC to administer certification programs are efforts A.S.P.E.N. has made to enhance delivery of safe and effective nutrition support for the protection of the public. The NBNSC, Inc. is a separate non-profit corporation.
