The 73rd Eastern Snow Conference (ESC) will be held at the Byrd Polar & Climate Research Center, and The Ohio State University, 14-16 June, 2016. The scientific program is open to sessions on theoretical, experimental, and operational studies of snow, ice, and winter hydrology. This year’s general theme is Airborne and spaceborne remote sensing of snow and ice. The ESC has only plenary (paper and poster viewing) sessions, allowing time to view and discuss the research of each participant. A pdf version of the Call for Papers is also available.

    • 会议信息: In Earth and planetary materials, deformation processes can be very fast, for example during an earthquake or a meteoritic impact, or very slow, for example when considering convection in the mantle or plate tectonics. Transient behaviors are also observed and a comprehensive description of all the rheological couplings between scales represent a great challenge in Earth sciences. The 2016 Rock Deformation Gordon Conference will present cutting-edge research on the various time and spatial scales involved in the deformation of rocks in the Earth and in the solar system. The Conference will feature a wide range of topics from the atomic to the planet scales, such as rock rheology in the ductile and brittle regimes, earthquake mechanics, interface dynamics, mantle dynamics, and flow in porous media. Geoengineering applications in the domains of geohazards and the sustainable exploitation of underground georesources will also be considered. Invited speakers represent a variety of scientific disciplines, including rock physics, geology, geophysics, mechanics, physics, and civil engineering. The conference will bring together a collection of junior and senior investigators who are at the forefront of their field, and will provide opportunities for junior scientists and graduate students to present their work in poster format and exchange ideas with leaders in the field. Some poster presenters from the Gordon Research Seminar held before will be selected for short talks. The collegial and open atmosphere of this Conference, with programmed discussion sessions as well as opportunities for informal gatherings in the afternoons, evenings and during the meals, provides an avenue for scientists from different disciplines to brainstorm and promotes cross-disciplinary collaborations in the various research areas represented.

    • Date: Monday, 22 May, 2017 to Thursday, 25 May, 2017 Venue: University of Iceland, Reykjavik An international conference on high latitude dust will take place at the University of Iceland from Monday 22nd to Thursday 25th May 2017. This will be first such conference and focuses on all aspects of dust which is sources from within the high latitudes (North of 50 deg. N and south of 40 deg S). The meeting will include optional field excursions in southern Iceland. Scientific themes will include: Sediment supply to high latitude dust sources (glacio-fluvial suspended sediment; catastrophic flooding) Cold climate aeolian processes Magnitude, frequency and timing of high latitude dust emissions Remote sensing of high latitude dust (supply, transport, deposition) Dust in the cryosphere Impact of high latitude dust inputs to marine, terrestrial and freshwater environments Modern high latitude dust as a modern analogue for paleo-dust activity Palaeo-records/archives of high latitude dust Challenges of modelling high latitude dust Anthropogenic influences on high latitude dust emissions Human impacts of high latitude dust To register an expression of interest, please click here to complete the form. Further details including deadlines for abstracts will be announced shortly. Contact person: hlccd@lboro.ac.uk
