  • Welcome, you have reached the home of the very first comprehensive Home Food Safety Video Series, "Hi I'm Your Health Inspector!". This series covers food safety issues that arise during normal preparation of meals in the home. It is aimed at consumers but makes a great training tool for educators and health care providers as well! This project was created by Tamara Holyk Crane BS biology / EHS who as a Health Inspector in Washington State and Lisa Richter M.A. (education), found that although the majority of meals eaten are prepared at home, home food safety information is sporadic and sometimes inaccessible. Public Health Inspectors work with retail / commercial foods and food establishments thus are seldom available to address the concerns of the general public regarding the meals they prepare for their families. These videos will help the viewer with information on home food safety and how to protect you and your family from foodborne illness. Information is based on the rules and regulations of the Washington State Department of Health, FDA, CDC and the USDA.

    • Although food safety and security are different aspects of food protection, they are inherently connected. FDA, at the direction of HHS, has established a 10-Point Program for ensuring the safety and security of the food supply. Based on activities in FDA's 10-Point Program, the Agency is implementing a comprehensive approach for: Awareness - develop increased awareness among federal, state, local, and tribal governments and the private sector by collecting, analyzing, and disseminating information and knowledge; Prevention - develop capacity for identification of a specific threat or attack on the food supply; Preparedness - develop effective protection strategies to "shield" the food supply from terrorist threats; Response - develop capacity for rapid, coordinated response to a foodborne terrorist attack; and Recovery - develop capacity for rapid, coordinated recovery from a foodborne terrorist attack.
