  • The Food Standards Agency is a Non-Ministerial Department responsible for protecting public health and consumer interests in relation to food. It was established in April 2000 when public confidence in the safety of food had been seriously undermined by the Bovine Spongiform ncephalopathy (BSE) crisis and other food safety problems and scares.
