On a digital force transducer utilizing a magnetomechanical effect (Villari effect) of ferrite core, an analysis of operation and experimental results are presented in this paper. This transducer is a relaxation oscillator which consists of an Esaki Diode and a BIAX type pressure head. The input is a compressive force and it is transduced into an output oscillation frequency. The characteristics are predicted from the simple theory by presenting a model of the exciting path around the exciting hole and by assuming equivalent magnetic anisotropy. The input range is up to 3.9×107Pa Nonlinearity and hysteresis error are±1% FS, and temperature dependence is less than 0.01%/°C. This transducer is simple and has a digital output.
