CHINA BIOTECHNOLOGY was originally launched in 1976, sponsored by Chinese Academy of Sciences in partnership with China National Center for Biotechnology Development (CNCBD) and Chinese Society of Biotechnology (CSBT). The journal is covered by the American Chemical Abstracts, Chinese Science Citation Index, Chinese Science and Technology Paper Citation Database, etc.

CHINA BIOTECHNOLOGY publishes peer-reviewed research articles, reviews, techniques and methods, which has an authorship and a broad scope in biotechnology. It reflects the national research development of biotechnology, publishes new advances and achievements in technology/methodology of relevance to the all fields of biotechnology, and promotes the industrialization of biotechnology in China.

The core areas seeking research papers include but not limited to: genomics and proteomics, antibody engineering, metabolic engineering, bioinformatics, tissue engineering, biomaterials, biomass energy, agriculture and environment biotechnology, marine biotechnology, etc. Every paper published in CHINA BIOTECHNOLOGY is freely available simultaneously with the publication.
